History

In 1926, Cecil Usher, a young graduate of McGill University, joined his friend, William Richter, to form an accounting practice in downtown Montréal. Today, over eighty years later, RSM Richter is the ninth largest accounting and consulting firm in Canada. With over 47 partners and 350 employees, we now have offices in Montreal and Toronto servicing clients across Canada and throughout the United States.

The firm’s standards of excellence were established by our founding Partners. These standards assured our clients that they would receive the highest level of competence, professionalism, integrity and service in every aspect of our work. Today, while the depth and breadth of our services have grown and, as our clients have expanded beyond the Canadian borders, our commitment to these standards is as strong as ever.

The history of our firm can be measured by a number of important milestones:

  • In 1962, RSM Richter was the first independent accounting firm to sign a prospectus for a public offering in Canada.
  • In 2003, the firm joined RSM International, a worldwide network of independent accounting and business advisory firms. Through RSM International’s offices in 64 countries, we have the ability to service our clients regardless of where their business takes them.
  • In 2009, the Montreal office joined forces with Chamberland Hodge, and changed its name to RSM Richter Chamberland.

A defining characteristic of our firm has always been our ability to understand our clients’ businesses, which allows us to provide much more than just accounting and auditing services.
