Classroom Training

The summer started at RSM Richter with a two-week training session. After that period, the training was scheduled on Fridays only. During the training, we learned a lot about the profession of Auditor and about different aspects of accounting. Every day, can-do professionals were initiating us to their fields of expertise. The topics covered included tax, inventory count, understanding financial statements, the role of the Auditor in the business world, etc. The training sessions complemented the topics covered at school and prepared us to work at clients as well.

Several of us were looking forward to the training period as the best period of the week because all students were together in a friendly and light atmosphere.

At RSM Richter we began our summer internship with interactive training. The classes introduced the interns to RSM Richter software and taught us how to conduct ourselves in an audit with a collaborative & professional state of mind.

Going into the training, I think it is fair to say that the interns were nervous and didn’t quite know what to expect. The teaching style relieved this pressure. The classroom setting was interactive, interesting and taught at an appropriate pace. Each class was led by an RSM professional who had expertise in their respective field, allowing us to learn all about the multi-faceted industry of accounting and audit. .

For instance, the first class was on information technology, where the corporate trainer gave us a preliminary lesson on how RSM Richter uses sophisticated programs to perform and record the results of our work. We also had training on ethics and professional standards, the Dos & Don’ts of the industry, which included a class taught by a third party. The ethics portion also discussed professional etiquette and soft skills, ensuring the interns could not only properly conduct an audit, but communicate with their clients in an effective and efficient manner.

We also learnt by a combination of discussions and practical workshops, how to prepare a client’s financial statements, starting from the very beginning right up to the final step.

Having never taken an audit class to date, I can honestly say that the training opened my eyes to a new side of accounting, and I thank RSM Richter for taking the time and diligence to prepare such a comprehensive and interesting training session.
